Introduction
The Russian invasion of Ukraine seems sudden but that is not a fact. The invasion has a considerable chain of events taking place in the background. Russian invasion of Ukraine has posed multiple regional and global threats which are economic, political as well as related to the peace of the world.
Russia-Ukraine Relations
Ukraine had been a part of the Soviet Union. With the collapse of the said Union, Ukraine was one of the first countries to declare its independence in the Eastern Europe. It shares border with Russia. It hosts a fraction of population that is of Russian descent. In 2014, Russia took advantage of the political instability in Ukrainian region of Crimea and annexed it. But, that was not the ultimate goal of President Putin. He was under fear that Ukraine would become a part of the European Union and ultimately a member of NATO, thus bringing the Western troops stationed at the Russian borders. To overcome these fears, he once again utilized the weak position of Ukraine and invaded it.
Regional Impact of the Invasion

- Peace of the region has been disturbed. Eastern Europe specifically and South Asia as well seek direct as well as indirect impact of the ongoing conflict.
- There has emerged a sense of dictatorial rule in the region along with conflict oriented approach.
- Russian invasion has forces countries like Poland and Belarus among a few others to support Moscow in this scenario even if they do not want to do so.
- The invasion has disturbed regional balance of power along with affecting the trade in Europe and Asia.
Global Impacts of the Invasion

- The decades-long cold war – which actually lost its venom since the 1990s – has once again emerged producing serious differences between USA and Moscow.
- A wave of economic sanctions is crippling the world trade once again thus causing massive price hike and disruption in supply of multiple products.
- There is emerging a threat of global war. World is not as safe as it was before the Moscow invaded Ukraine.
- The global alliances are disturbed. The creation of new political and ideological blocs is on the rise.
- Amid this tussle of global powers, small states of Asia and Europe are suffering in terms of their political securities.
- There is huge disruption of energy supplies from Russia to the European nations.
